A large part of DNS's success comes from the solid support of its working board. Each director brings a variety of professional and personal interests and experiences to the group, forging a board of directors committed to fulfilling DNS’s mission, maintaining its quality, and providing strategic planning for the future. As such, we welcome fresh ideas, energy, and talent.
Our current board members are:
Sue Agranoff (Officer), Durango, CO - After living in Boston for 30+ years, Sue found a need to be near the desert and the mountains (and still some amount of culture) and has found Durango to be a vibrant town with great access to extraordinary wild lands. She is the Auction Coordinator for Great Old Broads for Wilderness; and she spends as much time as possible canyoneering, hiking, backpacking, snowshoeing and river running. Sue is excited to be involved with an organization that inspires both young people and adults to be passionate about our natural world.
Erika Bach Good (Officer), Durango, CO - Technical writer and web manager. Long time Durango Nature Studies volunteer and senior naturalist. Currently completing her Wildlife Habitat and Naturalist Certification. Pen and ink nature artist, DOW volunteer, and Big Sister.
Pete Foster (Officer), Durango, CO - Vice President, Senior Project Engineer for Wright Water Engineers, Inc. specializing in Water Resources Engineering for Native American Indian Tribes, Water Conservancy Districts, Municipalities, Special Districts, and Industry. Professional Engineer licensed in the states of Colorado, New Mexico and Arizona. Born in Grand Junction, Colorado. Received Bachelor’s degree from Colorado College and Masters Degree in Civil Engineering from Colorado State University. Currently serving two gubernatorial appointments, 1) State of Colorado Southern Ute Indian Tribe Air Quality Control Commission and 2) the Cumbres and Toltec Scenic Railroad Commission. Originally appointed by Governor Owens, Reappointed to both commissions by Governor Ritter. Happily married to Nancy Foster for 15 years with two sons; Liam (10) and Nathan (8).
Robert Goodin (Vice President), Durango, CO - Account Executive, McAlvany Financial Group. BA in English, Sewanee: The University of the South. Robert grew up exploring the TN River Valley and Cumberland Plateau. His first job was working with horticulturists. During and after college, he worked at the Green River Preserve, a non-profit natural science school in the Blue Ridge Mtns of North Carolina where he studied and taught with naturalists and recruited staff during the off-season. In Chattanooga, TN he worked with SunTrust Bank. He moved to Durango in February 2007 and took a position with MFG advising clients with precious metals IRA's, Swiss storage accounts, and numismatics. He is chairman of the Durango Ducks Unlimited Chapter, member of Durango High Noon Rotary, soccer coach with DYSA and enjoys Durango's outdoor opportunities.

Bob Harrington (Treasurer), Durango, CO - Among many positions in a distinguished career, Bob is a retired professor of accounting at Fort Lewis College. He currently serves as the President of the Board for the Liberty School. In his spare time he also enjoys skiing, fly fishing, and bird hunting.
William Herringer (President), Durango, CO - Attorney, Greenberg & Herringer, LLC. William’s wife Michelle is a former staff member with DNS and they have both been long time members. He has served on several local community based boards and was a Big Brother for 3 years. He is interested in backcountry skiing, mountain biking, backpacking, birding, and fly fishing.
Gail Paulson-Hanson (Officer), Durango, CO - Owner and business manager of Hanson Honda. Graduate of Leadership San Juan, Leadership La Plata, and Leadership New Mexico. Member of San Juan Rotary in Farmington and veteran DNS volunteer naturalist.
Linda Herz (Officer), Durango, CO - Linda has lived in the Durango area for over 30 years. She graduated from Fort Lewis College with a BS in General Biology and a Natural History endorsement. Linda also received an MA in Environmental Studies from Prescott College. She has been a middle school science teacher (Life and Earth Science) for Durango School District for over 20 years and a Project WILD Project/ Learning Tree facilitator for 12 years.
Laine Johnson (Officer), Durango, CO M.S. in Zoology and Physiology. Thesis focused on the genetic effects of logging old growth forest on American martens in the Tongass National Forest, Alaska. Experience studying and handling mountain lions in Colorado and Wyoming. She is passionate about both kids and adults living with wildlife in our “wild” community. Currently, Laine is raising (more like chasing) her daughter and son full time. She and her husband enjoy road-tripping with their Eurovan, skiing, hiking, and trail running.
Eilene Lyon (Officer), Durango, CO - After living many places as an "Army-brat," Eilene settled in Durango where she has lived for over 23 years. A recent graduate of Ft. Lewis College with a degree n Environmental Biology, she currently works seasonal biology field jobs in the southwest and as stewardshop monitor for La Plata Open Space Conservancy. Formerly an accountant and business owner (promotional products, welcoming service). Veteran DNS volunteer naturalist. Member of Earlybird Toastmasters and volunteer for BBBS Study Connection.
Marcey Olajos (Secretary), After living in Tucson for over 30 years, Marcey has found Durango to be an interesting and energetic place to live. She is presently on the Board of the Wyss Foundation, which is involved in environmental issues in the inner mountain west, and Board Chair for the Center for Biological Diversity. She is an avid hiker and backpacker, spending her time in the Grand Canyon and canyons of Southern Utah. Her winter passion is cross country skiing.
Ray Pierotti (Officer), Colorado native and past Adaptive Sports Volunteer, Ray has worked for La Plata Electric for 12 years. His LPEA responsibilities are in Energy Efficiency, the Green Power/renewable program and working with members, schools and businesses to be more energy efficient. Ray is excited about being involved in an organization that provides such a valuable contribution to our youth.
Brian Rose (Officer)- Durango, CO- Vice President, Alpine Bank, Durango, CO. Brian grew up in New York and pursued his love of the outdoors and the mountains by moving to Buena Vista, Colorado in 1997. He graduated with a degree in Marketing and Management from Siena College in Loudonville, NY. Past employment includes GE Capital (retail credit), Gentiva Health Services (accounts receivable), and High Country Bank (Chief Lending Officer). Brian has been a member and volunteer with the Lion’s Club, Collegiate Peaks Music Festival, Paddle-Fest, and is currently a member of the Durango High-Noon Rotary Club. Brian and his wife, Tiffany, have two children whom receive numerous hours of outdoor education through homeschooling and playing in the mountains.
