What Does it Mean to be a Senior Naturalist 

If you have completed one of our extensive volunteer trainings, you may ask, where do I go from here?  How do I stay involved and growing with DNS? 

The answer is to join our incredible group of !! 

A Senior Naturalist is someone who has completed one of our trainings and continues to stay involved past the initial season for which they were trained.

 What Does Being a Senior Naturalist Include?

 -       You will be featured with a picture and bio on our website
-       We will offer special trainings throughout the year that will enhance your
teaching skills and knowledge of the area (e.g. Avalanche Awareness,
Project Learning Tree and Project Wild workshops, CPR classes, and much
more)
-       You will receive a Senior Naturalist t-shirt
-       You will be a mentor to new volunteers
-       We will ask you to lead at least 2 walks a season, or help out with volunteer
events throughout the year
-       You will have the chance to volunteer at our Junior Naturalist Field Camp in
the summer, or our after school Nature Club
-       You can visit the site when no classes are taking place
-       We will encourage you to take the winter training if you haven’t already
-       You can help out with trainings for new volunteers
- You may teach an adult workshop as part of our adult series if you have
something to offer
-       You can come to program meetings to offer your ideas and insights
-       You will know that you are helping Durango Nature Studies continue to
provide environmental and nature education to our kids and community.
