STW VOLUNTEER NATURALIST PROGRAM

TRAINING SCHEDULE

STW Volunteer Naturalist Training will be held on the following dates:

Day 1 Thursday Jan 21 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm Durango Public Library
Day 2 Friday Jan 22 8:30 am - 3:30 pm Chris Park/Haviland Lake

Here is what to expect in training...

Day 1
Thu - Jan 21
The first night introduces you to DNS, our staff, your fellow volunteers, and the STW curriculum. We get necessary paperwork out of the way, take some time for a dinnertime snack, and distribute the STW Volunteer Naturalist Manual.
Day 2
Fri - Jan 22
First thing in the morning, you will shadow one of our experienced veteran volunteer naturalists who will be leading REAL children on a REAL hike. After lunch, we spend time learning additoinal theme-based activities that you will use with students in grades 3-8.
Snowshoe Hikes
Tues - Fri mornings
Feb 2 - Feb 26
These walks are the heart of the season and the reason for all the great training! Each season, approximately 600 children participate in STW, so every volunteer and hike is important. We ask you to sign-up to lead three to five walks on Tuesday through Friday mornings during the season. You can choose the dates that work with your schedule.
