Founded in 1994, Durango Nature Studies (DNS) is a 501(C)(3) non-profit dedicated to providing nature, science, and environmental education to the students and communities of the Four Corners. As an integral member of the community, DNS inspires a positive personal relationship with the natural world through outdoor learning, thereby promoting enhanced respect for nature.
DNS teaches students,
adults, and families from Pagosa Springs to
Cortez, CO, and from
Silverton, CO, to
Farmington, NM an area of over
12,000 square miles.
With a staff of three and a core of dedicated
volunteers, interns, and contractors, DNS serves
approximately 7,000
people every year, 75% of which are
children. DNS also
own the 140-acre Durango Nature Center along
the Florida River south of Durango, CO.
The
position of VISTA Development and Outreach
Coordinator has two primary responsibilities
necessary for DNS to expand programs
to low-income and at-risk youth across
the region.
1.
Expand, create, and develop systems
of donor
cultivation.
2.
Develop and implement
a Master Naturalist Program
aimed at volunteer retention.
· Work
directly with Board of Directors and
Community
Coordinator to formalize,
expand, and implement
annual donor giving
model
· Develop
donor communication scripts
· Coordinate
a donor recognition program
· Develop,
coordinate and implement
a Master Naturalist volunteer
program
· Perform
other duties
as needed
· Bachelors
degree preferred
although
not required
· Experience with grant-writing or fundraising
· General computer skills and proficient in Microsoft Office, email,
and the internet
· Good interpersonal skills, team-oriented, enjoy working with others
· Self-directed, highly motivated, and reliable
· Ability to manage time, multi-task, organize, and be flexible
· Strong communication skills both written and verbal
· Ability to relate to and work with a diverse group of people
· Valid driver’s license
